Indexing & Discoverability

XML Sitemap Present

XML sitemaps help search engines efficiently crawl and index all store pages. Shopify auto-generates sitemaps, but this checks they're actually populated.

Impact: Positive Signal (+6 points)
Score Range: +6 points

What It Measures

Rewards stores with proper XML sitemaps to help search engines discover content

Detection Method

Checks sitemap_data for URLs and product/collection counts

Why this matters for cold outreach

Agencies

Filter seo_sitemap_populated = true + product_count > 100 and you have a slice of serious operators worth pitching premium retainers.

Freelancers

Use as a positive qualifier — stores with a real sitemap are already invested in SEO and more likely to pay for ongoing help.

SaaS founders

Combine with product_count to build a "serious store" segment; sitemap presence is the fastest signal for an established catalog.

Indie hackers

Pair with email filters to target operators who are already SEO-aware — highest open rates for cold outreach in the dataset.

Scoring Breakdown

Present

Valid sitemap with content found

+6 pts

How this factor shows up in the CSV

True when the Shopify sitemap.xml is populated with product, collection, and article URLs; false for empty or missing sitemaps.

# Every store carries its overall SEO score (this factor is one input)
seo_score # 0–100
# Stores flagged for this issue list it in the breakdown column
seo_issues # e.g. "XML Sitemap Present" shows up here when flagged
# Find prospects in Excel / Sheets
Sort by seo_score (lowest first), then scan seo_issues

Every row ships with seo_score (0-100) and a seo_issues column that lists each problem we detected for that store — including this one — alongside emails, phones, theme, apps, and country.

Everything you need to know

Stop guessing. Here is how StoreRadar helps you win deals before the competition arrives.

Does Shopify automatically create sitemaps?

Yes, Shopify auto-generates XML sitemaps at /sitemap.xml. However, we check that the sitemap actually contains content (products, collections, pages). An empty sitemap provides no SEO value.

Why is this a positive factor (+6 points)?

Unlike most factors which penalize issues, this rewards good SEO practice. A populated sitemap indicates the store is actively selling products and helps search engines efficiently discover and index all pages.

What if a store has products but the sitemap is empty?

This can happen with new stores or configuration issues. The store doesn't get the +6 bonus, but we don't penalize them either (it's a neutral 0 for this factor). However, other factors might catch related issues.
